About me

I began researching my family history when I was 16 and my Nana and some elderly aunts were still alive to share with me their memories of their childhood and their parents and grandparents. Now that I am a grandmother myself and after nearly forty years of research I want to be able to share these stories and the things that I have discovered about my roots with them so that they can appreciate the people who made us who we are.
I am continually amazed about the amount of information that we can discover about our ancestors and that so much nowadays is available online. I love being able to piece together information and then try to visualise how their lives must have been.
Years ago I found this poem in a book -

If you could see your ancestors, all standing in a row
Do you think you’d be proud of them, or don’t you really know? Some strange discoveries are made in climbing family trees, And some of them do not particularly please.
If you could see your ancestors all standing in a row
There might be some of them perhaps,
You would not care to know.
But there’s another question which requires a different view,
If you could meet your ancestors, would they be proud of you?

I hope one day to be able to meet my ancestors, to ask them more about their lives, for them to fill in the gaps.

Myself, I was born in England but married a Dutch man and now live in the Netherlands. My husband is a Miller and I work in our Windmill shop selling flour and baking products.
